In this section I am going to introduce about types of contact lenses by their functions and specialties.
Corrective Contact Lenses
These lenses are made for improve the vision of eyes, especially for correcting refractive errors. The
eyes diseases which are used to correct by these lenses are – Myopia (short sightedness), Hypermetropia (long sightedness). The person who have color deficiencies, they are also treated by a red tinted”x-chrom” contact lenses are uses.
Cosmetic contact lenses
Cosmetic lenses are use to
change the color of eyes they are used by both men and women. These lenses are also available to correct the vision, but most of times these lenses are used for change the color of the eyes. But before using the color contact lens we should consult the eye specialist and by only branded contact lenses from any good place or any authorized dealer.
Theatrical lenses are also a type of cosmetic lens is used by those ac
ting in horror films. Mostly Scleral lenses are used in theatrical lenses. It covers whole white part of the eyes and gives a different look to the eyes. But the disadvantages of these lenses are that they can not be used more than 3 or 4 hours. Mostly these types of lenses are used in Halloween festival, where people used these lenses for look different from each another.
Therapeutic Contact Lenses
These lenses are used to correct the non-refractive disorders of eye. To protect from injured or diseased cornea from constant rubbing of blinking eyelids thereby allowing healing bandage contact lenses are used. They are also use for treating of dry eyes, corneal abrasions, erosion, corneal edema, keratitis, corneal ectasis, Mooren’s ulcer, anterior corneal dystrophy, nd neurotrophic keratoconjunctivitis and bullous keratopathy. Contact lenses which deliver drugs in eyes are also developed recently.
